Description

Draining a small watershed of the Cascade Range and harnessed by Howard Hansen Dam, the lively Green River cuts deep through Green River Gorge, featuring excellent advanced intermediate level whitewater rapids and good scenery. Trips on the Green originate at Flaming Geyser Park, where natural gas jets as an eternal flame from the earth’s crust. The park is just one remnant of the Green River’s mineral mining history, with numerous old mine claims along its banks.

As trips descend into Green River Gorge, scenery changes from dry plateau to lush and rainforest like, with hanging gardens and banks thick with moss and ferns. The Green River Gorge ranges from 150-300 feet deep and is choked with boulders and constrictions along its length, providing the perfect recipe for continuous challenging rapids. The swift waters and twisting nature of the canyon make this an especially challenging run and participants on river trips along this run should be in good physical condition. Day long commercial trips are offered along the Green River, which is located a convenient one hour drive from Seattle.
