As one of Nebraska's biggest cities, Omaha has its share of urban sprawl, but spend a little time in town and find museums, pleasant parks, plenty of places to tuck into for an Omaha steak and somewhat unexpectedly, an indoor rainforest.
The North Fork Sauk River above the falls offers good resident trout fishing. No anadromous salmonids are found above the falls. The North Fork and its 2 principle tributaries, Sloan and Cadet Creeks, contain good to excellent pool and riffle channel sections. Most of these pools are formed by naturally occurring log jam complexes. Average channel gradient in the lower North Fork is 2-3% and in the upper North Fork 1-2%. Access to these channel sections is by small walks from Rd 49. The scenery is outstanding with the peaks of the Henry M. Jackson serving as the backdrop.
