As one of Nebraska's biggest cities, Omaha has its share of urban sprawl, but spend a little time in town and find museums, pleasant parks, plenty of places to tuck into for an Omaha steak and somewhat unexpectedly, an indoor rainforest.
Russell Gulch is not a single gulch so much as many ones situated around a ghost town (named Russell Gulch). Make sure you have GPS before exploring, because there are many, many spur trails and you may end up lost. But there's plenty to see (even when lost). Old mines and mining equipment are everywhere and the views are excellent.
