As one of Nebraska's biggest cities, Omaha has its share of urban sprawl, but spend a little time in town and find museums, pleasant parks, plenty of places to tuck into for an Omaha steak and somewhat unexpectedly, an indoor rainforest.
The San Juan Skyway is a magnificent loop that crosses the San Juan Mountains twice, from Durango to Ridgway and then to Dolores. From the high mountain towns and alpine vistas to the red rock desert below, you'd be hard pressed to find a drive with more diverse terrain. There are plenty of things to stop and do or see along the way, so if your schedule allows, plan on enjoying the route over several days.
