As one of Nebraska's biggest cities, Omaha has its share of urban sprawl, but spend a little time in town and find museums, pleasant parks, plenty of places to tuck into for an Omaha steak and somewhat unexpectedly, an indoor rainforest.
The Wild & Scenic Middle Sauk river is fed by a combination of melting snow and glacial melt from the North Cascade Mountains and Glacier Peak. Best run in late spring and early summer, the Middle Sauk offers technical intermediate and advanced level boulder strewn rapids through a twisting river channel.
Thick forests predominate the Middle Sauk’s banks, offering a remote, wilderness feel with excellent views of the surrounding mountains from river level . Water levels can fluctuate dramatically on the Middle Sauk due to rain and hot weather, creating more difficult passage very quickly. Previous whitewater experience is suggested for visitors on this river section.
